Houston gets the first smart play structure in the U.S.

A master-planned community (MPC) in Woodforest will be the first in the United States to feature Sona Play Arch, a smart play structure, in Wallaroo Park. Sona Play Arch uses cameras to measure movement of people playing with it. It will have a play floor that features interactive colors and numbers, and spinner play pieces and LED ribbons that serve as water misters. It also will be accessible for children with mental and physical disabilities.

The Coastal Flood Risk Reduction Program: five years of student exchanges between the Netherlands and Texas

The Coastal Flood Risk Reduction Program is an American-Dutch partnership for research and education that was started in 2012 and then formalized in 2014 thanks to a major grant from the National Science Foundation. University students from Texas and the Netherlands take advantage of our similar topography and learn how each culture approaches the challenges that come with living on the coast.

The teams from the Houston Dynamo and Dash have been very successful. At our New Year's Reception (15th January, 2018) Chris Canetti, President of the Houston Dynamo, made a wonderful contribution.

The Dynamo team had a successful 2017 campaign that included a run to the Western Conference Championship. Season 2018 will be their 13th season. Under second year coach, Wilmer Cabrera, the club looks to build off of last year’s success.

In post-Harvey Houston we witness that class action litigation poses increased risks and challenges for American and international businesses. Albert Knigge, who heads the Houthoff practice group, is specialized in defense litigation in class actions and he will discuss the threats and opportunities of the Dutch class action system.
